We need a conference that is accessible for all, that is democratic and that is inclusive.
I’m standing to be your Disability Representative on the CAC to ensure that our conference not only is positive, optimistic and equal – but to also make sure it sets out a vision of transforming this country.
Labour is the party of equality, and we need a disability representative on the CAC who isn’t afraid to stand up and fight for what we need.
Disabled members who require personal should not experience financial difficulties in coming to conference, accessible accommodation should be identified and provided.
We need a conference where everyone feels safe and where everyone is able to participate.
Materials need to be sent out in advance, and it should be easy to read. Conference maps and signage must also be accessible.
We need to ensure that disabled peoples needs are anticipated, and that we are keeping with the public sector equality duty.
Now is the time for action. We’ve talked about equality, now it’s time to act on equality and get things done for disabled members when arranging conference.
I am backed by Momentum, and I hope to get your backing too.

Candidate Statement

As a former National Secretary of Disability Labour and as an attendee to many conferences over the years of my membership, I’ve seen the issues and problems that many disabled members have had to our conference and accessing party democracy.

Whether it being venues, entrances, hearing loops and technology, the party needs to do better in providing a conference that can allow for every member to access this important part of our history.

I have been fortunate to attend conference under different capacities in my time as a member from both visitor to delegate to assisting in activities of Socialist Societies. I have seen the need for change.

I am passionate about member’s having a voice in the party and being able to get this government in to office and make real change but that needs to include everyone and provide it on an equal footing. I’ve seen the reforms with accessibility stewards, quiet spaces and great work of DL providing Mental Health First Aid but I can see scope for more to be done so everyone can get the most out of conference.

I will stand up for disabled member’s and make sure conference is the most accessible ever.
