AI in the NHS – Ashworth responds
Jonathan Ashworth MP, Labour’s Shadow Health Secretary, responding to government plans for AI in the NHS, said:
“Labour have long argued for extra investment in modern technology including AI.
“Years of Tory NHS cuts and failure to address 100,000 staff shortages means the Tories have failed to meet the NHS target on diagnostics with over 43,000 patients waiting longer than six weeks for a diagnostic test or scan.
“Early diagnosis is vital and potentially life-saving which is why we need an end to smash and grab raids on capital budgets alongside a credible plan to recruit the staff we need now and in the future.
“But at the start of this week the PM tried to palm off old money for the NHS as new. And earlier this month, Hancock announced he would let Amazon access the tech of our publically owned health service – for free. So it’s clear you can’t trust Boris Johnson’s government to deliver for the NHS.”
