Andrew Gwynne MP commenting on reports the government is preparing to bring back Roger Scruton

Andrew Gwynne MP, Labour’s Shadow Communities and Local Government Secretary, commenting on reports the government is preparing to bring back Roger Scruton as an adviser, said:

“Roger Scruton should never have been appointed in the first place, and the Tories certainly shouldn’t now be talking about having him back.

“The Conservatives’ endorsement of Scruton’s history of Islamophobia and antisemitism, along with recent surveys which have shown that around half of its members hold racist and Islamophobic views, shows just how deep the problem in the Tory party runs.”
