Andrew Gwynne responds to LGA report

Andrew Gwynne MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, commenting on the launch of the “On Day One” by the Local Government Association (LGA) Labour Group, said:

“Labour welcome this booklet, not least because so many of the policies announced in our manifesto will require a freshly empowered and properly funded system of local government and many of the ideas outlined can help influence our policy discussions in the months and years ahead.

“We know with the current crisis facing our councils, that how we fund local public services desperately needs reform – so we look forward to working with our local leaders to develop a more sustainable model for funding our councils in the future.

“Despite savage Tory cuts to local government, many Labour councils continue to showcase the kind of communities we aspire to be. They are also paving the way for a positive future under the next Labour Government.”
