Andrew Gwynne responds to LGA’s warning of £8 billion black hole

Andrew Gwynne MP, Labour’s Shadow Communities and Local Government Secretary, responding to the Local Government Association’s warning of an £8 billion black hole in council budgets, said:

“This warning should be a wake-up call for Ministers.

“Under the Tories, 60p out of every £1 that the last Labour Government invested in our councils has been cut – with the most deprived parts of the country hit the hardest.

“This Conservative Government won’t stand up for working people, and ordinary families are paying the price. It is time for a Labour Government that will deliver sustainable funding for councils and act in the interests of the many, not the few.”
