Andrew Gwynne responds to news that Government sending in a commissioner to Buckinghamshire County Council

Andrew Gwynne MP, Labour’s Shadow Communities and Local Government Secretary, responding to the news that the Government is sending in a commissioner to Buckinghamshire County Council to turn around the authority’s long-failing children’s services, said:

“Buckinghamshire Council was first rated as inadequate in 2014 and has been so ever since but it has taken almost four years for the Government to finally act.

“The failure of another Tory-run council is the result of a perfect storm of chronic underfunding and catastrophic Tory mismanagement.

“This situation cannot be repeated. Vulnerable children are at risk whilst the Government turns a blind eye to councils that are being pushed to the brink by Tory austerity.”
