Andy McDonald comments on reports of £300m for cross-channel transport companies in the event of a No Deal Brexit
Andy McDonald MP, Labour’s Shadow Transport Secretary, commenting on reports that the Department for Transport will provide up to £300m to cross-channel transport companies in the event of a No Deal Brexit, said:
“At least the government has managed to identify companies which actually own ferries this time, but this is yet more wasted money that the government could be putting towards improving bus services or reducing the cost of travel for passengers.
“Thanks to the Tories’ reckless No Deal plans, the Department for Transport has already wasted tens of millions of pounds on botched ferry contracts and legal settlements with cross-channel operators.
“Boris Johnson’s government must rule out a No Deal Brexit, which would be a disaster for jobs and cause mayhem at our ports.”
