Andy McDonald responds to the news TfL have not renewed Uber’s private hire operator’s licence

Andy McDonald, Labour’s Shadow Transport Secretary, responding to the news that TfL will not grant Uber a new private hire operator’s licence, said:

“Innovative technologies have an important role to play in our transport networks, but endangering passengers, tax avoidance and a crisis of low pay is not a price worth paying.

“It’s important that giant multinational companies like Uber are not allowed to flout the rules and put passengers at risk.

“Labour will reform taxi and private hire services to set minimum standards on safety and accessibility, updating regulations to keep pace with technological change and to close loopholes to ensure a level playing field between all taxi operators.”
