Angela Rayner responds to government’s teacher recruitment announcement
Angela Rayner MP, Labour’s Shadow Education Secretary, responding to the government’s announcement on teacher recruitment, said:
“This government has created a crisis in teacher recruitment and retention, with more teachers leaving the profession than being trained. A generation of children are paying the price for Tory failure in our schools.
“Teacher recruitment targets have been missed for six consecutive years and teachers are leaving the profession in record numbers. Nothing in this strategy will reverse years of real terms pay cuts and the huge cuts to school budgets that have made it impossible for schools to recruit the staff they need.
“Through our National Education Service, Labour will invest in our schools and provide ring-fenced funding to give teachers the pay rise they deserve.”
