Anneliese Dodds reacts to Government changes to Job Retention Scheme eligibility guidelines
Anneliese Dodds MP, Labour’s Shadow Chancellor, reacting to Government changes to the guidance around eligibility for the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme, said:
“On Sunday, Labour called on the Chancellor to update the guidance for the furlough scheme so that working parents and others were aware they could be furloughed due to childcare responsibilities. I’m pleased that the Government has listened to Labour and made that change today.
“Now we need further action to promote the scheme to parents and employers, especially the flexible element, and better communication of the critical workers list. The cut-off date for furlough eligibility should be brought forward too.
“Labour is also calling for the Chancellor to urgently set out a long-term plan to protect jobs and livelihoods through this crisis to help the national effort to stay home, protect the NHS and save lives.”
