It is astonishing that today’s Green Paper doesn’t include any Government investment for new homes – John Healey

John Healey MP, Labour’s Shadow Housing Secretary, responding to the Housing Minister’s admission that the number of new social rented homes being built will remain at record-low levels next year, said:

“Conservative cuts have driven the number of new social rented homes to a record low, so it is astonishing that today’s Green Paper doesn’t include any Government investment for new homes.

“Only this Conservative Government could produce a plan for social housing that the Housing Minister admits will fail to get more social rented homes built next year.

“After eight years of failing to build the homes the country needs, Ministers must now back Labour’s plan for a million new genuinely affordable homes over ten years.”
