Barbara Keeley comments on new social ‘CareBnB’ scheme

Barbara Keeley MP, Labour’s Shadow Cabinet Minister for Social Care, commenting on a prospective new care pilot by private company CareRooms, said:

“Unregulated ‘CareBnB’ schemes like this aren’t a substitute for properly-funded home or residential care.

“That this company, which still hasn’t addressed the potential safeguarding concerns first raised about its proposals last year, is being considered for a new pilot in Tory Health Minister Steve Barclay’s own constituency should be a major cause of concern.

“Rather than experimenting with badly thought-out care schemes like this, Tory Ministers should be funding more good quality care packages, following Labour’s example by pledging £8 billion across the Parliament with £1 billion up front this year for social care.”
