Barbara Keeley responds to Mencap Society judgement

Barbara Keeley MP, Labour’s Shadow Cabinet Minister for Social Care, commenting on the judgment in the case of Royal Mencap Society v Tomlinson-Blake, said:

“This judgment will come as a blow to care staff, who are some of the lowest paid workers in the country, and who do not deserve to be punished for Tory underfunding of the social care sector.

“The Tory Government must make sure that care staff are paid at the living wage and paid adequately for sleep-in shifts.

“Labour would invest £8 billion across this Parliament, with £1 billion up front this year, and would make sure all care staff are paid the real living wage.”
