Barbara Keeley responds to RCP report on winter pressures

Barbara Keeley MP, Labour’s Shadow Cabinet Minister for Social Care, responding to the latest RCP report on winter pressures, said:

“This is yet more evidence that this Tory Government’s short-sighted, penny-pinching approach to social care is deepening delayed transfers of care and causing misery to patients stuck in hospital because they cannot access social care closer to home.

“Hospital staff and NHS patients are now at the sharp end of the false economy that Tory Ministers have made in social care by cutting funding to councils and investing only a fraction of the £7 billion lost through their relentless pursuit of austerity.

“Labour pledged to ease this Tory-made social care crisis by investing an additional £8 billion across this Parliament and moving towards a sustainably-funded National Care Service for the long term.”
