Boris Johnson is taking a ‘casual’ approach to national security – Labour responds
John Healey MP, Labour’s Shadow Defence Secretary, responding to the Joint Committee on National Security Strategy report that concludes Boris Johnson is taking a ‘casual’ approach to national security, said:
“The failure to prepare for the crisis in Afghanistan during 18 months before the withdrawal left British nationals and the Afghans who helped us at the mercy of the Taliban. This report proves beyond doubt that the dereliction of duty came from the very top of government.
“Rather than learning the lessons from Afghanistan or Covid, the Prime Minister’s response is to reduce the number of hours he puts into keeping Brits safe.
“National security is the first duty of government and if Keir Starmer was Prime Minister he’d give it the full focus it requires. ”
