Boris Johnson has shown the utter disdain he has for Northern Ireland

Tony Lloyd MP, Labour’s Shadow Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, commenting on the admission from the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland that he was not consulted by the Prime Minister on proroguing Parliament, said:

“In not consulting his own Secretary of State, Boris Johnson has shown the utter disdain he has for Northern Ireland.

“The government’s reckless pursuit of a No Deal Brexit, the threat of the return of a hard border and the potential for the imposition of direct rule from Westminster is causing deep concern in Northern Ireland.

“We need a General Election as soon as No Deal is taken off the table, so we can elect a Labour government that will be fully committed to the Good Friday Agreement, to restoring power, and standing up for all communities in Northern Ireland.”
