Bridget Phillipson comments on GDP figures

Bridget Phillipson MP, Labour’s Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury, commenting on the latest GDP figures, said:

“Today’s GDP figures, along with yesterday’s IMF forecasts, show how the UK’s economic recovery is at risk.

“Our economy should have been roaring back in August, instead businesses are being left out in the cold and millions face a growing cost of living crisis.

“We cannot sit back complacently – this chaos will continue until it’s fixed.

“The upcoming Budget provides a last chance opportunity to secure the recovery through Winter. But at the moment we’re simply faced with a Chancellor missing in action.

“Labour would use our recovery to boost skills and jobs, with our plan to buy, make and sell more in Britain, and by taxing fairly, spending wisely and getting our economy firing on all cylinders.”
