‘Businesses needed certainty today, but this Conservative Government has left them in the lurch again’ – Anneliese Dodds
Anneliese Dodds MP, Labour’s Shadow Chancellor, responding to the Prime Minister’s statement on lockdown, said:
“Businesses needed certainty today, but this Conservative Government has left them in the lurch again by not giving them clarity on the future of support though the next stage of this crisis. Indoor hospitality won’t reopen until 17 May at the earliest – more than a month after they have to start paying business rates and more than two weeks after furlough ends.
“And today’s changes to support for self-isolation don’t go far enough. The Government must expand support for anyone without workplace sick pay or risk the much higher cost of more restrictions.
“We urgently need the Chancellor to step up and end the uncertainty to protect jobs and businesses from the worst economic crisis of any major economy.”
