Care campaigners’ letter to the PM – Barbara Keeley responds
Barbara Keeley MP, Labour’s Shadow Cabinet Minister for Social Care, responding to the “Health for Care” campaign letter addressed to the Prime Minister, said:
“This complacent Tory Government continues to ignore the increasingly desperate pleas from the health and care sector for funding for social care, with serious consequences both for adults in need of care and an NHS which has to pick up the pieces.
“It is nearing two years since Tory Ministers announced that they would publish a Green Paper, which is in itself only the starting block for the long-term reform of social care. In that time 50,000 people who requested care have died without receiving any and many more are continuing to go without the care they need to live with dignity.
“Labour in Government will address the short term care crisis by investing £8 billion in social care before building a sustainable National Care Service for the long term.”
