Cat Smith responds to reports that youth organisations urging ministers to bring in ‘missing millions’ excluded from electoral roll

Cat Smith MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Voter Engagement and Young People, in response to reports from the Electoral Reform Society that youth organisations and campaigners are urging ministers to bring in the ‘missing millions’ excluded from electoral roll, said:

“By blocking this change, Ministers are knowingly preventing huge swathes of young people from being represented in our politics.

“This simple change would go a long way to radically improving the dwindling number of young people registering to vote – hopefully helping to develop a lifetime habit of voting.”
