Chlorinated chicken admission undermines Brexit compromise efforts – Gardiner

Barry Gardiner MP, Labour’s Shadow Trade Secretary, responding to Liam Fox’s admission that the UK might accept chlorinated chicken under a UK/US trade deal, said:

“How many times does a government minister have to deny something before we finally know it is true?

“For two years Labour has been warning that a deal with Trump meant chlorine washed chicken, and hormone fed beef. Time after time government ministers denied it.

“Now Liam Fox has come clean and admitted that a UK/US trade deal would rip up our food safety and animal welfare protections.

“Once again he has undermined efforts to find a sensible compromise Brexit deal that would protect rights and standards as well as people’s jobs; but this just shows why people don’t trust any government promises on what a future deal might look like.”
