Climate change must be a strategic priority for all UK aid spending – Dan Carden
Dan Carden MP, Shadow Secretary of State for International Development, responding to the International Development Select Committee (IDC) report into UK aid spending on climate change, said:
“The IDC is absolutely right that addressing climate change must be a strategic priority for all UK aid spending, regardless of which department administers it.
“With poor long-term climate programme planning, reduced climate expertise and capacity, and insufficient transparency over climate financing, it is clear the government has not been taking this commitment seriously enough.
“Cross-Whitehall collaboration must be stepped up as a matter of urgency to ensure that climate finance given to developing countries isn’t undermined by export credit to those same countries for fossil fuel extraction.”
