A company making billions off users’ data should have detected a breach – Tom Watson
Tom Watson MP, Labour’s Deputy Leader and Shadow Secretary for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, commenting on Facebook’s fine from the ICO, said:
“Facebook deserves every penny of this fine, and more. A sum like this is a drop in the ocean for such a tech giant.
“A company making billions off users’ data should have foreseen and detected a legal breach of this scale and duration.
“This will not be the last of the scandals on Facebook’s timeline.
“The writing’s on their wall. That’s why Labour is advocating for a new independent regulator of tech platforms that will have the powers to rein in these global internet giants.”
