Conservatives slashing funding for new low-cost homes and refuse to help private renters

John Healey, Labour’s Shadow Housing Secretary, commenting on new Resolution Foundation research on the cost of housing, said:

“Sky-high housing costs are hurting living standards but the Conservatives have made the problem worse by slashing funding for new low-cost homes and refusing to help private renters.

“Labour will invest in new council and social homes in every area of the country and control runaway private rents.”

The Conservatives’ record on housing has been recently highlighted by the National Audit Office, who found that they had built none of the 200,000 flagship ‘starter homes’ promised in 2015: https://www.nao.org.uk/report/investigation-into-starter-homes/.
