Consumers will pay an extra £1.5bn on their electricity bills – Rebecca Long Bailey
Rebecca Long Bailey MP, Labour’s Shadow Business Secretary, commenting on the NAO report that consumers will pay an extra £1.5bn on their electricity because of government changes to rules on how low-carbon electricity contracts are awarded, said:
“The Government’s intervention has caused nothing but disarray with hard-up customers now having to pay even more for their electricity.
“Their failure to carry out a full impact assessment on the unintended consequences shows a serious lack of due diligence.
“Labour will cap energy bills and radically reform our broken energy market by creating publicly owned, locally accountable companies and co-operatives to rival existing private suppliers.”
