Councils forced to overspend over £800m on children’s social care – Gwynne responds
Andrew Gwynne MP, Labour’s Shadow Communities and Local Government Secretary, responding to the LGA’s report that councils are forced to overspend almost £800m on children’s social care, said:
“The current funding for local government is unsustainable and vulnerable children are paying the price.
“Austerity has led to demand for children’s services increasing year on year, whilst funding has been cut to the bone.
“The upcoming spending review needs to see our councils receive the funding that they desperately need.”
