CQC report for St Andrews Healthcare Adolescent Service in Northamptonshire is shocking – Barbara Keeley
Barbara Keeley MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Mental Health and Social Care, responding to the CQC placing St Andrew’s Healthcare Adolescent Service in Northamptonshire in special measures, said:
“This report is shocking reading. It shows the care provided here is unsafe, lacking compassion and poorly managed. The young people detained by this service deserve much better care.
“The CQC has previously told St Andrew’s Healthcare that its use of segregation is inappropriate, and yet young people remain segregated for long periods of time. The service in Northamptonshire has been rated ‘requires improvement’ since 2017 and so it’s wrong that NHS England is continuing to fund placements from this provider despite their continued failure to provide safe, compassionate care.
“I first raised serious issues with St Andrew’s Healthcare in Parliament last October and I have repeatedly called on the Secretary of State to close these centres, and ensure that young people get the care they need closer to their homes, in their communities.”
