CWU votes to strike – Gill Furniss responds
Gill Furniss MP, Labour’s Shadow Postal Services Minister, commenting on the overwhelming vote for strike action by CWU members in Royal Mail, said:
“We stand in solidarity with the CWU and postal workers in their determination to improve their pay and conditions and the future of the postal service.
“Six years after the historic mistake by the Tory and Lib Dem coalition government to privatise the Royal Mail, workers’ pay, conditions and services have declined while the company has paid out £1bn to private shareholders.
“Labour will bring Royal Mail into public ownership and establish a new publicly-owned Post Bank to better serve our communities and ensure postal services work for the many, not the few.’’
