Dan Carden comments on US sanctions on Iran

Dan Carden MP, Labour’s Acting Shadow International Development Secretary, commenting on US sanctions on Iran and the recent floods, said:

“The people of Iran should not have to suffer because of Donald Trump’s decision to re-introduce sanctions on the country.

“These inhumane sanctions imposed by the USA extend to any entity doing financial transactions with the country, which hinders efforts to send aid and makes it very difficult for any humanitarian donors to reach those most in need.

“With at least 70 people known to have lost their lives as a result of severe flooding in recent days, it is imperative that the relief and rescue effort is helped, not hindered, by the international community.

“With the USA letting down the Iranian people, the UK must now step up and follow the lead of France, Switzerland, Russia and Germany, who have already announced aid packages for the victims of the floods.”
