Danger of losing a generation of children to mental ill health – Barbara Keeley
Barbara Keeley MP, Labour’s Shadow Cabinet Minister for Mental Health, responding to the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care’s announcement about children and young people’s mental health services, said:
“This country is in danger of losing a generation of children to mental ill health because of this Government’s irresponsible and short-sighted approach to funding our mental health services.
“Vulnerable children with mental ill health cannot afford this Government to tinker around the edges with woefully unambitious plans that will ultimately help only a fifth of children when currently only one in four with mental health conditions are able to access mental health services.
“At the last election, Labour pledged to increase the proportion of funding for children’s mental health services and enable access to a counselling service in every secondary school to tackle the epidemic of mental health problems in children under this Government.”
