David Lammy responds to Conservative decision to abstain on Opposition Day Debate on ‘Protecting the public and ensuring justice for victims’
David Lammy MP, Labour’s Shadow Justice Secretary, responding to the Conservative Party’s decision to abstain on Labour’s Opposition Day Debate on ‘Protecting the public and ensuring justice for victims’, said:
“The Government’s shameful decision to abstain on measures to reverse the Crown Court backlog, enshrine victims’ rights and tackle violence against women and girls shows they have abandoned victims.
“A decade of Conservative cuts and court closures created the crisis in our justice system, and now they are refusing to fix it.
“Inaction is complicity. By refusing to vote for these proposals, the Conservatives are becoming complicit with criminals.”
