Dawn Butler comments on Bill to outlaw homophobic chants at football matches

Dawn Butler MP, Labour’s Shadow Women and Equalities Minister, commenting on the Bill to outlaw homophobic chants at football matches, said:

“Labour fully supports this Bill to outlaw homophobic chants in football stadiums, which is the next important step to making discrimination in sport a thing of the past.

“Any football fans or players being bullied and taunted for their sexuality is unacceptable on or off the pitch. Last month we marked the 25 year anniversary of Kick it Out, the organisation founded to tackle racism and all forms of discrimination in football. They’ve done great work, but there is still much more to do to end discrimination in sport.

“I call on the Government to give the Bill the support it deserves, so together we can make it law.”
