Debbie Abrahams comments on university pension strike

Debbie Abrahams MP, Labour’s shadow work and pensions secretary, commenting on the university pensions dispute, said:

“It beggars belief that the government has done nothing to bring the employers back to the negotiating table. It’s also incredible to witness our world class universities setting such a poor example in leadership to their students.

“The best minds in the country should be more than capable of reaching a compromise with their hard working and dedicated staff. The government must stop their hand wringing and get the employers around the negotiation table at ACAS.

“It cannot be right that universities are joining a race to the bottom in closing their defined benefit pension, ringing the death knell for decent pensions.”
