Delayed construction deal fails to go far enough – Long Bailey
Rebecca Long-Bailey MP, Labour’s Shadow Business Secretary, responding to the government’s construction sector deal, said:
“Carillion’s collapse shone a spotlight on the many problems within the construction sector. This delayed sector deal fails to go far enough in tackling issues such as late payment abuse and the exploitation of workers.
“Labour has called on the government to mandate the use of project bank accounts in all major construction projects, enforce 30-day payment of suppliers on public projects to protect interests of supply chain businesses, and introduce a robust system of binding arbitration for persistent late payers.
“Greater ambition is needed from this government to safeguard the construction sector which is so important to our economy.”
