Disability pay gap at its highest since figures began – Marsha de Cordova

Marsha de Cordova MP, Shadow Disabilities Minister, responding to TUC research on the disability pay gap, said:

“The Tories are failing disabled people: the disability pay gap is at its highest level since figures were first published. The government has failed to tackle the disability employment gap.

Disabled people are increasingly being either locked out of work or locked in to low paid work.

This has happened alongside punitive cuts to social security for disabled people and a callous assessments and sanctions regime – which a recent study found to be counterproductive.

The next Labour government will ensure disabled people get the specialist support they need and expand Access to Work so that many more disabled people can find work and earn equal pay.”
