Disadvantaged students losing out due to surge in the number of unconditional offers – Rayner
Angela Rayner MP, Labour’s Shadow Secretary of State for Education, commenting on new UCAS data showing a huge increase in the number of unconditional offers being made by universities, said:
“This surge in the number of unconditional offers is yet more evidence that the Tories’ free market experiment in higher education is failing students.
“It is disadvantaged students, who are most likely to have lower predicted grades, that are losing out.
“The current system gives universities perverse incentives that too often make it impossible for disadvantaged students to reach their potential.
“Education is a right, not a privilege. The next Labour government will scrap tuition fees and bring back maintenance grants to ensure that everyone can access higher education, regardless of their background”.
