Fears Johnson will scrap energy price cap – Rebecca Long Bailey responds

Rebecca Long Bailey, Labour’s Shadow Business and Energy Secretary, responding to suggestion that Boris Johnson will scrap the energy price cap, said:

“The Tories were dragged kicking and screaming into introducing the energy price cap, costing consumers hundreds of pounds through repeated delays. Now there is a danger that Boris Johnson will consider scrapping this lifeline for households and hike up energy bills for millions of people.

“The Prime Minister is bending the knee to fracking companies, slashing tax for the wealthiest, and now planning to ditch the energy price cap. It’s already clear that Johnson only cares about standing up for his rich mates rather than protecting the interests of the British public.

“The next Labour government will retain and strengthen the energy price cap to keep bills down for the British people, bring the grid into public ownership to end the rip-off and launch a Green Industrial Revolution to create jobs and cleaner energy.”
