Gordon Marsden responds to the latest Sutton Trust report on lost Part Time students

Gordon Marsden MP, Labour’s Shadow Higher Education Minister, responding to the latest Sutton Trust report on lost Part Time students, said:

“The severe drop in the number of part-time students is further evidence of the Tory’s neglect of those who do not follow traditional routes into Higher Education.

“The tripling of tuition fees by the Tory-led Coalition Government has had a serious impact on potential part-time students, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, and has held people and our economy back.

“The Government’s market-driven approach to Higher Education is failing. Labour will set up a standing Commission on Lifelong Learning, as part of our National Education Service, and scrap tuition fees, to ensure everyone has both the opportunity and support to learn, retrain and reskill at every stage of their lives.”
