The Government introduced 30 hours of funded childcare nearly a year ago, but have failed to stump up the cash to make it work – Brabin

Tracy Brabin MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Early Years, commenting on National Day Nurseries Association research on shortfalls in Government funding for delivering the Conservatives’ flagship childcare policy, said:

“The Government introduced 30 hours of funded childcare nearly a year ago, but have failed to stump up the cash to make it work.

“Nurseries are finding a funding shortfall of over £2,000 a year for every child they take on, putting them at risk of having to shut down.

“The Government must urgently review funding levels for the good of children across the country. The next Labour government will provide 30 hours of properly funded childcare to all 2-4 year olds.”
