The government is losing control of cancer care in this country – Ashworth
Jonathan Ashworth MP, Labour’s Shadow Health Secretary, responding to the latest NHS performance statistics on cancer waits, said:
“Cancer services simply aren’t keeping pace with demand and it’s disgraceful that suspected cancer patients aren’t being seen on time. These figures are a reminder that years of Tory underfunding and understaffing has left patients increasingly anxious and worried for test results, and will be forced to wait longer for vital treatment.
“It’s unacceptable, especially when we know that early diagnosis leads to better outcomes, and it urgently needs to change.
“With cancer targets repeatedly being missed, and with the recent scandals around breast and cervical screening, the government is losing control of cancer care in this country.”
