The Government is misleading Parliament to defend a policy that does not support UK shipyards – Wayne David

Wayne David MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Defence Procurement, responding the written statement from Tobias Ellwood MP on UK shipbuilding, said:

“This statement makes it clear that the Minister was more concerned about cheap point scoring than getting the facts straight.

“The Government is resorting to misleading Parliament to defend a policy that does not support UK shipyards.

“Labour will use the defence procurement process to boost the UK economy, support jobs and industry, by including employment and economic impacts in major MoD contract bids and require the department to factor that in when determining “good value”. The Tories should do the right thing, make this contract a UK-only competition and build the Fleet Solid Support ships in Britain.”
