Government must act now on asthma to save lives – Sharon Hodgson

Sharon Hodgson MP, Labour’s Shadow Public Health Minister, responding to the news that asthma deaths in 2017 were the highest this century, said:

“This is the highest number of deaths from asthma attacks this century, an increase of 25% in the last decade, and the Government needs to act now to save lives.

“The UK has one of the worst asthma death rates in Europe, and yet two-thirds of asthma deaths could be prevented with better basic care. We are seeing the consequences of Tory cuts to our NHS.

“The new Secretary of State must ensure asthma awareness and treatment are brought up to the world class standards those with the condition deserve.”
