The Government has not acted to fix our broken water market – Rebecca Long-Bailey
Rebecca Long-Bailey MP, Labour’s Shadow Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, commenting on the latest proposals from Ofwat, said:
“The Government has not acted to fix our broken water market. This is why Ofwat now has to plead with them to do something.
“But Ofwat have had nearly 30 years to reign in excessive profits and make water companies serve their customers, and have completely failed. Only public ownership and proper democratic accountability will work.
“Labour’s plan is simple. We would replace our dysfunctional water system with a network of regional publicly-owned water companies. This way the market for the most basic of commodities , water, will serve the many and not the few.”
