The Government has sat on the sidelines on the university pensions dispute – Angela Rayner
Angela Rayner MP, Labour’s shadow education secretary, commenting on the university pensions dispute, said:
“Our campuses have been brought to the brink of crisis by an intransigent and unreasonable employers’ body, while the Government has sat on the side lines. Their negotiators should now immediately sit back down for meaningful talks, involving ACAS as an independent mediator.
“Even at this stage, employer representatives could spare students and staff any further disruption if they entered into genuine negotiations, and it is well past time that ministers told them clearly to do so.
“Britain has world-class universities thanks to the hard work of their staff. They deserve employers that value them and a government that protects them. Needless attacks on their conditions and morale will only end up damaging the higher education sector which is so vital to our economy and society.”
