Government should heed warnings in new report on child obesity and take urgent action – Jonathan Ashworth
Jonathan Ashworth MP, Labour’s Shadow Health Secretary, commenting on Professor Dame Sally Davies report on child obesity, said:
“This is an important report from Dame Sally Davies, with many suggestions government should consider. Child obesity is at a record high and children’s health is suffering because of the Conservatives’ snail’s pace progress on tackling it.
“Labour has led the way in demanding a ban on junk food advertising before the watershed and on extending the sugar tax. But over a year since the obesity plan was published, the government continues to do nothing but window dress their commitment to child obesity.
“The government should heed warnings in this report and take urgent action. Our children cannot wait any longer. Creating the conditions to help our children become the healthiest in the world will be a priority for the next Labour government.”
