The Government’s failures on climate change are putting our coastal communities in peril

Luke Pollard MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for fisheries, flooding, water and coastal communities, reacting to the Committee on Climate Change report that rising seas will swamp homes, said:

“Eight years of relentless austerity and neglect have held back coastal communities, and now this Government’s failure to take meaningful action on climate change is putting these communities in peril.

“We need to prevent the damage that rising sea levels could do – and it needs to happen urgently. This is a disaster waiting to happen and Britain cannot afford to look the other way by passing the crisis onto the next generation.

“Labour will act to prevent the worst effects of climate change by banning fracking, creating a long term plan for renewable energy and delivering on our net zero emissions target.”
