Government’s response falls woefully short – Marsha de Cordova
Marsha de Cordova MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Disabled People, commenting on the government’s response to the UN’s review of the UK’s implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, said:
“The Government’s response to the UN’s damning report on the impact of its policies on disabled people falls woefully short.
“Yet again the Conservatives ignored crucial recommendations, including the call for a cumulative impact assessment of its devastating cuts on the lives of disabled people. They have also failed to address concerns about the mounting social care crisis and disability employment gap.
“It was a Labour government that ratified the UN CRPD in 2009, and the next Labour government will incorporate the UN CRPD into UK law – ensuring that disabled people are given their rights.”
