Greenwood responds to Dispatches, Growing Up Poor: Britain’s Breadline Kids

Margaret Greenwood, Labour’s Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary, commenting on Dispatches, Growing Up Poor: Britain’s Breadline Kids, said:

“It should be a source of shame for this Conservative government that over 4 million children are growing up in poverty, with families forced to turn to food banks to feed their children.

“As this programme showed, families are often being left with impossible choices between eating, heating and paying the rent. This winter there are children going cold and hungry as a direct result of government policy.

“Labour will scrap Universal Credit, the two-child limit, the benefit cap and the bedroom tax. We will make tackling child poverty the priority it should be once again so that every child can feel valued and cared for.”
