HMP Bristol report – Imran Hussain responds
Imran Hussain MP, Labour’s Shadow Justice Minister, responding to a report highlighting a lack of care shown to vulnerable inmates at HMP Bristol, said:
“The Tories have failed to get a grip on our national prison emergency. In Bristol, they have virtually ignored the prison being put in special measures, and failed completely to ensure the prison improves.
“Bristol has been receiving disturbing inspection reports for nearly a decade – and the responsibility lies with the Tories and Lib Dems, who slashed prison staff and budgets across the country.
“The government must launch an emergency action plan, not just for Bristol but for all our prisons – and it has to be backed by new funding to restore order and safety.”
