Jack Dromey comments on IFS analysis of changes to pension credit for ‘mixed age couples’
Jack Dromey MP, Labour’s Shadow Pensions Minister, commenting on IFS analysis of changes to pension credit for ‘mixed age couples’, said:
“People who are retired on very low incomes should not lose out on Pension Credit simply because they have a younger partner. This policy, that was sneaked out on the eve of the first Brexit meaningful vote, means even less money for hard-up pensioners.
“With pensioner poverty already on the rise, this is compounded by the decision to end free TV licenses for over-75s and the fact that since 2017, the government has held onto £7 billion in unclaimed Pension Credit. The government is letting down pensioners.”
